Hi Everybody

This may be ho-hum for most of you, but quite an achievement for me. I finished the last of my 1150's 40 000km service last night  - at least the part that I can do myself. It turned out to be not as difficult and I probably saved quite a few tanks full of petrol on labour. Here's the breakdown of parts costs:

fuel filter (BMW) = R180 :x
Fuel tank o-ring = R90
Air filter (BMW) = R180 :x
Oil (Castrol high milage) = R60
Oil filter (GUD car filter) = R30
Gearbox oil (Sasol SAE90) = R60
Final Drive oil (Sasol SAE90) = R30
Spark plugs (Champion x 2) = R40

Total = about R700 including crush washers, etc. The only thing left to do is bleeding the brakes, which would be best to do at BMW. They recon it's about 1,5 hours of labour which would be another R450.

Scribble and I did both our bikes at the same time and it turned out to be a huge learning curve. We got some tips from an experienced boxer rider on how to adjust the valves and sync the throttle bodies. The best thing about doing my own service is the peace of mind that you know it was really done...
