Dakar for sale, so, bought this a few weeks ago , but plans went awry, genuine reason for sale.
last of the Dakar range ,first reg october 2007.
never seen dirt.
bought this one after viewing multiple Dakars for sale on many forums.
As it was for my wife to ride as well as myself i did the following to make it pretty and functional, between us we have had 6 Dakars so we do know our way around them.
i spent aound R11000.00 on the following.
new front tyre
new front brake pads
new fork oil.
new set fancy shorty levers
new oil filter, oil.
new air filter.
shock rebuilt by bling king [denver]
new chain
new rear sprocket
new front sprocket
rear knobbly fitted which had about 1000 kilos on it, this tyre is terrible for the road.
tank bag is a 2nd hand one but works fine.
fitted with foldable mirrors,
i fitted a std f650 centre stand to the bike, these are about 25mm too short for the Dakar but help loads when working on the bike, they can easily be lengthened by a welder but i dont bother doing it anymore , a simple board under the stand when lubing the chain works fine. or a less aggresive knobbly will probably free the rear wheel.
bike runs lovely.
The fly in the ointment, the kilometer reading sets to zero every time you start the bike. this happened at approx 45 thousand kilos and the bike was used to commute from Mistream estates [wow, have you seen thoses houses] to the university in pta for a year ,at least twice a week.
if you use a GPS mileage is easy to calculate with regards to fuel, we know that when the yellow reserve light comes on we still have a 100 km to go, so we were quite happy to leave that alone. Bike does about 4.5 litre to 100Kilos.
the cluster is otherwise perfect. a new diode is needed in the cluster, lots of details online.
bike gets sold with lots of goodwill and you will always be invited to join our South of joburg rides.
RWC valid to end of Feb.
