My wife realized after I sold the GSA that she wasn't done going with on rides (although we don't see epic trips like before in our future she misses the odd breakfast run or ride out to Robertson to go and visit the family)
The original plan to get a road bike next to this one has also been shall we say de-prioritized by other 'life happens' things.
At the same time another incredible opportunity presented itself for a bike that I've always wanted, so the Tenere is in the market
I bought it from my brother in law in October 2024. He had it since 2016 and was a 'rustige' kind of rider - more into the scenery than adrenaline, and also to commute to the office to beat traffic
They came down from Gauteng during lockdown and since then he would start it every now and then to get the juices going, but has only ridden it about 3 times in so many years.
I still believe this would be the perfect dual sport bike for me if my wife didn't ride with and as such I gave it the full treatment when I got it, as I was ready to have a long term relationship with it.
I took it to Droomers where they:
Gave it a major service including all fluids and valve clearances
Cush rubbers
Replaced the chain roller
Rear brake pads
Replaced fork seals and oil
Replaced the front two indicators (those and one of the rear ones got damaged in the move down from Jozie)
I also replaced the radiator fan
Odo at time of service: 64100
Then at the end of December I replaced the front tyre (also had them fit an enduro tube) and the chain and sprockets
It has done about 800km since
Extras:
Rumbux crashbars, luggage rack and bash plate
Motorradical topbox
Centre stand
TomTom Rider GPS with powered handlebar mount
Greenish Yellowish headlight cover (not fitted currently)
It has lowering links from what I can gather (the side stand seems almost too tall. Not a big deal, but you just have to make sure that you don't park it at the wrong angle)
I asked Droomers for a quote for regular ones and they quoted R400 with a couple of weeks lead time. I was contemplating it, but I like the bike at the height that it is now
Honesty section:
Both rear indicator arms have broken (the left one from the move as mentioned before and the second one the past weekend on a trip to Tankwa Padstal)
I don't know if it got brittle with age and then didn't enjoy the rattly road, but both are Macgyvered currently (the left one passed roadworthy and the right one is now more rigid than that one)
Close up photos included
Last night I discovered that one of the lower left side panel mounts has broken (I didn't notice the cable tie before)
I removed it to check and the bit where the top screw goes in is loose on the inside, but whomever encountered it before put a piece of rubber in there and pulled it tight with a cable tie and that seems to do the trick
It doesn't bother me and it is properly fastened, but it is worth bringing attention to
Then the last thing (that Droomers wasn't surprised about) is that the key sometimes needs a slight jiggle to turn
As far as I know these are all the things that isn't perfect on it
2011
66200 km
Next service due at 74000km
Book of life with full service history
Licensed up to November and papers in order
I was thinking R52 000, but considering the rear indicators and the bottom left side cover, I will let it go for R48 000, which I think is fair
This will include a road worthy certificate and obviously all the extras mentioned above
I am in Kraaifontein (WC) and as before, if you are from out of town, I would prefer you send someone you trust and who is unbiased to come have a look on your behalf
Within reason I also won't mind coming to show it to you or your representitive
