Found this Tenere left outside for the last 10 years on Gumtree and just had to save it- lics last renewed in 2008 adding up to 2800 bucks was also added to the sad looking bike- motor turned over nicely and was running when last parked but i will take with a pinch. Everything aluminium is oxidizing and a fair bit of surface rust but nothing that cannot be solved- so we gave it a wash and stripped all the bigger bits off. Sprayed q20, silicone spray and paraffin on everything and will start stripping in the next few weeks and after sticking in a fresh battery the lights came on. I feel it will start with fresh petrol but will have to open the carbs first. The plastic front mudgaurd is toast and the rear ( see pic) with moss growing on it might also be shot but the rest should be fine. Thought s are just to get it running well first and then decide on repaint etc. I want to strip the wheels as there is a spot or two of oxidizing on the rims as well
To do list
Left front shock is leaking badly and the whole brake caliper is covered in oil which probably saved it from corroding into a piece of scrap. Parts needed so far- front mudguard, rev counter, seat rebuild/cover, new chain, decompression cable
Whats the best to do before starting the engine thats been standing so long- flush with a diesel mix.
