Thanks guys, I am glad that i have managed to get some of what i was feeling accross. BB i think you are right the riding is easy and the writing is the hard bit!

I am in the planning stages of the next one! A couple of changes to my trusty bike and then onto the next!  :mwink:

Can you maybe tell what kind of budget one must have to do this adventure?

Thanks for an awesome RR. Looking forward to read the next one! :ricky:

Well done Alan!

In the end you did very well (I think) despite your reservations about a "slow" start!

What was impressive to me is that you were riding against the best guys in the world and still held your own - they ride that sort of thing year in and year out with years of competitive experience behind them - so doing well in a field like that is no small accomplishment IMO.

Thanks for the well put together RR - it was an excellent read.

Hi Alan.

Thanks for the great words.

I think that the experience will help me in many ways in the future!

Cheers

Al

Well done!  :thumleft:  Thanks for the effort you put in to share the experience with all of us!

Apologies for barging in like this, I asked Kenisis some questions re costs a while ago and based on his answers at the time, and combining that with costs from SA for man and machine, I got to about R60K-R65K, excl prepping your bike. How does that compare to other's figures?

That's a pretty good price...are accommodation and flights included? Also if its your own bike you need to include shipping costs.

Rally is not cheap and as my Mrs always reminds me: I am the more expensive one. ::)

The good news is I have designed a 500km Stage1 of 5 leaving Pretoria, possibly for use in the next Amageza. Now I need someone with a road book and a GPS to do the pre-running for me so I can build the road book.

Ja, all in my costing, incl transport and accomm. Based on own bike, looks more expensive if you rent according to the adds I have seen for packages. Much less hassle I guess ?? Sure Kenisis can give us the pros and conns of renting vs own bike ;)

I think for Abu Dhabi and Dos sertoes rental is the way to go!

Are there any guys renting bikes out for the Dos sertoes? and for what price? Maybe ill give it a go next year!

and so it all begins again. I am testing the setup that Honda Europe run for their bikes tomorow The same setup that Quin Cody ran in the Dakar. I may be parting with some cash again.

Great accomplishment and great RR! Inspirational read - thanks Alan.  :thumleft:
