990 Adventure - Running Costs and Fuel Range

I have this itch... but I'm a little worried about:

• Running costs.  I've heard rumours that KTM's services are quite expensive.  A mate of mine's colleague rides a 990R and claims that a service from KTM costs between R4k and R7k?!  If that is true and one adds the 7500km service intervals you end up with running costs that are approximately three times more than that of a GSA.
• Fuel Range.  On a recent trip one of the 990 riders mentioned that he can go 300km on a tank of fuel if he rides very relaxed, but can only bank on 200km if he rides it hard.
