990 does not want to shift higher than 3rd gear

Please help, my 990 does not want to shift higher than 3rd gear.
Has anybody ever seen/experienced  this problem?
Somebody told me that there is a selector pin "thinghy" that probably broke. I really hope it is something small like that.

I took the bike to my dealer this morning and now I am anxiously waiting for them to let me know the "damage".
