We are planning a 10 day trip during September 2012 over the following route: Pretoria,Zeerust,Kang,Gobabis,Windhoek,Swakopmund,Otjiwarongo,Rundu,Katima Mulilo,Nata,Ellisras,Pretoria. 4300 km in total. Maximum distance in 1 day 560km. Staying over at camping sites every night. One catch. On a 990 ADV/1200GS,Super Tenere etc., it's no adventure so only cheap 125cc bikes/scooters are allowed and no backup vehicles. You can pick one up in the Junkmail or Gumtree for about R4000. These bikes get 40-50km/litre, so you save about R2000 on fuel for the trip alone, besides wear & tear and maintenance on your pride & joy. When you get back, you keep the bike for the kids to learn on, sell it again or put it out with the garbage. You put a milk crate on the laggage rack and carry a backpack. More than enough space for a sleeping bag, tent, clothes toiletries and padkos. 4 riders have already confirmed. We're looking for at least another 6-10 to join.
