I spent last week in Kampala doing some training and an upgrade for one of my clients.
This was my first time in Uganda, so i was quite amazed at all the bikes they have. The call them Bohda bohda's which is essentially a cheap taxi. I have been all over Africa and this is the only town, besides Zanzibar that i have seen this.
Costs USh500 for locals and 1000 for tourists (±R5). It is a bit of a scary ride as these drive everywhere. If the road is blocked, they hop onto the pavement or drive up the wrong side of the road, as long as they get to the destination.
Here are a couple of pics taken from my office window (they do not like pics taken on the street!).
They go three up
Ladies sit side saddle..
These guys are not scared
The most amazing thing is that the rider is supposed to wear a helmet. Many of them just hand it on the mirrors or something, when they see a cop, flop it the head, ride past and then remove it.
But the passenger or customer does not need to wear a helmet!
