I'm sure this has been discussed a million times.

Looking at buying either a 990/950 or a BMW 800.
My heart wants to go with the KTM! But I have heard many "stories" regarding reliability and high maintenance costs, this is a concern considering the price bracket I can afford will see me buying a bike with between 40k km and 60k km on it.
The KTM is also more expensive than the BMW so my head is leaning towards the GS.

I will commute with the bike say 3 times a week and will use it on longer trips. I like the fact that the KTM is more offroad biased as I would like to do as much dirt road as possible. Would also do the odd trip into Africa, have heard spares for BMW are more readily available.

How reliable have you found these bikes to be? Do they have as many niggles as I have heard?
What are the service costs?

Anyone owned both the BMW and KTM?
