Loved the video! I had a similar experience at that gate with the spectators, it was hidden behind a bush and pounced on me. I came in too fast as well and almost took it out, having to powerslide through it to make it. Touch and go, a real sphincter moment, but awesome to pull off in retrospect.

I was braking hard there, but I doubt it was endo'ing. I can't do that on tar let alone gravel. Must have been a bump. A Michelin Desert front is pretty reliable in that department though.

This photo sort of sums up a great aspect of the expereince.
All the other guys in the photo are technically competitors, but with no hesitation they dove into Kobie's bike and finally found the offending short that had killed it.
Kobie though blitzig on a bike is, I sense, not gifted with mechanics; I have him on video calling his 690 a "plaas bike" and was not sure what the capacity of the thing is. I get the impression that giving him tools to carry is wishful thinking and probably the main reason why he and Gideon teamed up.
The race is mostly with ones self and the others just make it super exciting. The camaraderie and fun factor is very high. It's not hard to see how much effort was required just to get to the start line so that seeing someone drop out is not a nice feeling. I was helped many times and where I could, gave back in return. (except to help change mouses of course!).

I think it is probably Brian Baragwanath's bike, he is a pro Quad rider and did Amageza on a bike for Dakar Navigation training, so I guess he is so used to ride with a quad throttle, that he modified the bike to fit his needs.

Yep, he's riding the Dakar on a quad and originally entered the Amageza on one. However, when the race required road legal status machines he took a bike. A thumb throttle is more comfortable for him. He is incredibly quick on a bike, I'd hate to know how fast he is on his preferred choice of steed.
His golas were "thumb time" and navigating. On stage 4 he was just cruising and not putting himself or his Dakar at risk.
