At the start of my last special.
until next year
:thumleft:

What was the issue with the bike?

I really do hope to be back for more specials next year. I am a sucker for punishment :D >:D
And I'm not sure yet :(
Since we got back we pretty much unpacked all our things and I properly washed the bike. That's about it... HSK and I have been too busy with work and prepping the 690's for the WD Bash at Gariep dam in our spare time. Hopefully things calm down a bit after we get back. I'll post a technical report soon as I know what's going on :)

One of those guys you passed was properly impressed with you.

When he got to me, he said something like: "That chick can ride! Her bike's broken, you'll have to recover her, but she flew past me in the sand like I was standing still"

Oh my word, so it was actually true :eek7:

Just joking my angel, I believed you all the time  :lol8:

Next year no more excuses, solid bike and physical prepping.  We need good results now since we already committed ;)

Nothing wrong with the bike - just do not overfill with oil as will puke like any scoot!  ::)

grt to ride that Amageza  ...lovely to 'feel' the experience with you
;D

I am enjoying every word of your report, Minxy. Thanks for taking the time and please keep it coming.

I hope Yster Roller aka Rolling Stone also treats us with his experience of the race...  :deal:

I was so gutted when I heard about the bike issues. As I have said anything almost but not issues with the bike would be better.

When I couldn't hear GeeS's bike anymore it finally sank in. I was alone.

I sat and thought about a lot of things. There were many emotions. Disappointment most of all. My race was pretty much over. It was the first day I was riding well and really enjoying myself and bamm! I got smacked with bad luck. Oh well, that's life I guess. How do they say? What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger? Hmmmm... At least I can take a lot from this experience and be better prepared next time. Which reminds me, there's only a few short hours of daylight left.

I set off to collect some firewood. Just in case... I have no doubt they'll pick me up before it gets dark though. They said there would be a sweeper on the route and I did hit my assistance button on the satellite tracker.
My biggest concern at that moment wasn't the wild animals, or the snakes, or the annoying insects. I grew up in a small town near the Botswana border and often spent time with my friends on their farms. I was no stranger to being in the bushveld. A fire normally keeps animals away, and heck I could always climb up a tree. What I was really concerned about though, was what if a person came along, the not so friendly type... I didn't have anything to protect myself with. "I'll just whack them with my helmet." I reassured myself. There hasn't been a sign of civilization for kilometers though, so I could only hope I'd be safe.

(Left) No make up, but I do have blisters, cuts and bruises. This is my rally face  (Right) My bike, taking a rest.

Enough wood to start a fire when it gets dark.

That pic of your bike in the veld is lovely. Makes me long for Africa.

And the fire. And the fine sand.

Can't wait for the next episode

At this stage I went to inquire as to why they haven't been moving for more then 3 hours.  I was however assured by Alex that no assistance / sos signals were sent out.  The only possibility I could think off was that they might be busy fixing a mechanical problem and were therefore not requesting assistance...

From a support crew perspective it was really difficult to know what was happening.  We bought a 100 Pula prepaid data bundle when we left Kang so that we could do the tracking on Eddie's iPad.  We first had to butcher the card to make it micro size and then realize we can't activate it without phoning.  Everybody we asked at the bivouac had new nano sim cards and it was only the next day, as we left Ghanzi that we managed to trace a phone to activate the data.  By then it was too late as we only had very limited cellphone coverage anyway :3some:

Let her continue.....
