Thanks a lot for your trouble and great photos. It all gives a well rounded impression of the that part of the world, never having been there. Much appreciated. Was personal safety ever a concern ? (Compared to here) It didn't sound as if you were at all concerned about that, and the guy waiting on your scooter to collect your phone ! Its what life should be like. Thanks again. Very tempting. What would a trip like you're planning cost, (just ball-park) including flights ?

To be honest, away from the tourist places like Bali I felt safer. I was steered away from some roads etc by locals but learnt that they are actually concerned and scared that they would get bad reputation if anything was to befall me. Its a genuine concern for your well being. Lombok and Sumbawa are Muslim so as long as you remember that its fine. They are not aggressive and when I say remember its Muslim, I mean common sense things like dont get angry and demand bacon at breakfast or carry porn or get drunk (..yes they do have alcohol and its quite relaxed.). Asia culture is very gentle and caring and regardless of religion, embarrassing somebody or any aggression is frowned on heavily. They will rather walk away even if you are clearly at fault then embarrass you (or themselves). I am starting to teach myself a bit of the language to help and always take a few pics in a folder of home because they are always shocked to hear I am from Africa because I am not dark and curious about my world.

Im going back in mid October to ride the same route but push on all the way to Labuan Bojo. Open to anybody that wants to join, estimate costs excluding tickets will be around R14k per person sharing. Sorry for the long pause. Been busy with a short tourism project in Botswana. The plan is still progressing and I am working on routes and making some adjustments to it based on feedback, group size, mixture of terrain and ride to suit all tastes and of course to get the most in the days we have. There are several options for the last part of the trip

Option 1. From Sape catch ferry to Labuan Flores without scooters (they go back to Bali via truck). Arrive in Labuan Bojo then catch a boat to explore the islands and see the Komodo dragons or


Option 2: From Sape catch ferry to Labuan Flores with scooters and instead of boat trip around islands we explore further into Flores. After this fly back to Bali and those wanting to explore Bali and relax for few days can before flying home
