BMW 1150 GS Input Shaft Spline Problems?

Hi Guys,

While I am waiting to get my hands on a bike, I am reading everything I can about the 1150GS. I came across the Input Shaft Spline issue.

Has anybody got any experience with this problem? Is it a manufacturing issue or is it caused by the way the bike has been used?

And then lastly, if the crap does hit the fan, how difficult/expensive is it to sort out?
