With all the hype around the 1200 shocks this is my experience with the 1150 GSA.
At 69000km my rear shock was a quite worn out, soggy and generally causing the rear end to wallow, I phoned BMW for a replacement price......R9900-00 FFS!
I phoned around for a replacement Ohlin.....R7500-00.
I then contacted Martin Petzeold of MP Valves in Cape Town, sent BOTH my shocks, front and back, to him for an overhaul.
Two weeks later (he was busy) I got my shocks back, tuned for my needs, just under R2000-00 for BOTH.
He says my rear shock was WAY past it's sell by date, no pressure and the oil was vrot.
Now this is apparently quite normal for any shock, the big difference is BMW shocks are NOT supposed to be serviceable, the KTM shock IS serviceable. Why is this?
The BMW shock was a Showa, not WP as the 1200 has.
Can the WP BMW shock be repaired? Has anyone tried this or are they just being replaced under warranty?
