Hi Dogs,
Selling my Dakar that I bought about a year ago. Had the bike for just shy of 10000km, never gave me one issue or concern. Previous owner bought the bike on behalf of an overseas based buddy to come do a tour. He prepped the bike and then the plans fell through, so I ended up getting it. While working on this and that on the bike my impression was the bike was well looked after and things done properly.
The bike:
2001-3 (not sure, cannot find the info ATM), 46200km on the clock.
Fork Savers
Wide Footpegs
Brand new rear pads
Brand new unfitted front pads included in sale – Current set still has a wee bit of life, but not much.
Brand new BMW grips
Mitas E07 front, plenty left
Metzeller Tourance rear, also plenty, but less than front.
12V takeoff
Did preventative water pump rebuild at 42000km. Replaced all seals and oil/air filter etc etc. Judging by the condition of the removed impeller which showed no sign of wear, the work was unnecessary. Hence my comment above. Also did the return oil line mod with hydraulic coupling, as per one of the pics.
Serviced the shock about 1500km ago due to leak on one side. Replaced seals, wipers and sommer all the bushings while I had it open. Stanchions still in perfect condition, so guess the fork savers do work.
Bike comes with slight scratches on the one tank cover. Engine/Clutch covers unscathed.
Extras:
BMW expandable panniers matched with ignition key. They came to me with a couple of dings, but works perfectly. I broke the one plastic mounting bracket and replaced it with an indestructible rattle proof Pooratech stainless steel rubber lined bracket. See pic. Ended up not using the panniers that much, opted for soft luggage for the type of trips we did.
BMW Tank Bag: Decent condition; comes with waterproof cover.
Guvi Top Box: Very good condition. I never used it.
Metzeller Tourance front tyre, say 50% life left.
Reason for sale: For the type of riding I like the Dakar was just a tad heavy. So I’m going to sacrifice the long distance comfort of the Dakar (the best of all the 650’s?) for something with more off road pedigree. Maybe XRR if I’m feeling brave.
Special Wild Dog Price – R43500.
Nul 7 three – 785 – double 7 43
