Bmw F 650 GS / Dakar Front Forks re done by delivery cycle centre
Hi Guys
I have seen so many threads regarding re doing the fork seals on the 650
And after reading article after article I decided this was rather a job for the Pro`s or people who know what they doing as I did not.
Lets start from the beggening my bikes front shocks where pitted and rusted and because of this pissing oil out and I urgently needed to get this done
Ok I thought lets give Bmw a call well that was a kak move I was told sure no problem we will do the job in two days at a cost of R12 000 later
Decided not to go with this option
So I put a post out to the dogs and asked where I could got the re chroming of the stantions done and nobody knew where or how
All I was told that it is a major mission and this scared me even more .
And so it started call after call eventually I was making headway
I got hold of Bling King for a set progressive springs
A buddy of mine Deadly Headley put me onto Brian Shortt who runs Delivery Cycle Centre in jhb
I explained the problem to Brian and must say I was surprised at how eager he was to help as everyone else was just not interested
I stripped the front end out of my bike and deliverd the forks to brian
From there they stripped and cleaned the forks .
It was now time to find someone to rechrome the stantions
Together brian and I got hold of a guy in germiston who specializes in rechroming of bike stantions
Well there I was off to germiston to see the chromer .
He explained it was a bit of work to re do the stantions but it can be done and it will be better than new
A week later I collected the stantions must say they look awesome ,they had been ground down and cleaned
Then re chromed and then ground and polished to exact specifications.
The rest was easy deliver the shocks back to brian who then assembled the forks and put them back together
A few hours later Brian gave me a call to collect the forks as they where done must say I was totally impressed
Not only was the job timorously done but it was done with a smile and with real passion for the Job
And as you can see from the pics the job turned out awesome.
So to BRIAN SHORTT AND SON
THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN .
GUESS you now ask about price well all I can say it was +- 20 percent of the cost Bmw quoted
WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN LESS IF IT NOT FOR THE CHROMEING
So if any of you guys need your seals re done speak to Brian Shortt at Delivery Cycle centre
They also do servicing and repairs and in future my bike goes there
