Many GS owners may have heard and even experienced the STOOPID design of the forward air intake snorkel that can SUCK water in when crossing even quite shallow water. Spoke once to the R&D BMW guy from Krautland at the GS Challenge about this and he seemed genuinely surprised ... but then was also gobsmacked that we actually used the bikes the way we do!!! ... or they were suposedly designed for? I was in turn gobsmacked when I saw that the arrogant krautlandenjineerz repeated the flaw in the 1200's ... go figure? Funny thing is shortly thereafter Touratech started developing same - not sure oif they now make one?
Anyway I digress - I made a simple pennytech mod that cost 2 cents (for the cable ties). Essentially a piece of old hoover hose with some draft exclusion tape on the snork end to ensure a good push fit, ends just below the cockpit. When not needed it just pushes away up underneath the tank. Here are the linkies to the story:
