Cutting to the chase, my dad has never owned a bike, my brother and I own a 1150GSA and 990s Adventure respectively and will be doing some light riding in the western/southern cape and Karoo this December and my dad wanted in. That means learn to ride from scratch, I mean SCRATCH. So he needed a bike, being a big BMW car fan he wanted a bmw bike, and it must be "good looking" and ''classic". I wanted to do an old R80/100 cafe build but at the time we needed the bike we couldn't get a decent example. Thus we settled on a neat '87 K100 with 93k km on it. It was fugly, but we knew we could pull it off. This was the green monstrosity we started with: I took this pic after riding it home after we bought it, at this stage we had only owned it for 25 minutes.
