In the 80s BMW released what is considered by many to be the grand pappy of large capacity adventure / enduro bikes - the R 80 G/S. It shocked the world, and even won the Paris Dakar a couple of times. Today this bike is still loved and owned by many, including a few of our own esteemed members. Some people still choose these to tour the globe, some stock standard, and some farkled to the nth degree (HPN sauce anyone)?
What do think of this bike? If you've owned one, what did you like / dislike about it? If you bought one now, what would you farkle / bling? is this one of your "have to have one in my garage one day" bikes?
Let's have a lekker bike related discussion, for a change :deal:
(no, this is not another "what bike for me" thread. or maybe it is ot
EDIT: here's the Wikipedia entry:
The BMW R80G/S is a motorcycle manufactured in Berlin, Germany, by BMW Motorrad from 1980 to 1987. Production totalled 21,864 bikes.[1] It was the first in the BMW GS family of specialised dual-sport bikes, of which over 500,000 have been produced.[2] The designation G/S is an acronym of Gelände/Strasse, which means offroad/road – highlighting the bike's dual sport design.
