Why does any thread that has anything in it about either of these bikes always end up in a debate about which one is best? Why not have a thread that only debates this point... As a sticky so that anybody that still wants to read about or something on this topic, can do it here. I will start.
I ride a BMW R1200GS, a 2006 model oil cooled. So am probably biased.
I have not ridden either the new BMW or the KTM, but have looked at and sat on both. I like the KTM more for a number of reasons... It looks better, looks more hard core adventure or off road, is a bit cheaper, has better performance specs, I like the write-ups on the electronics etc
BUT
BMW has a better reputation for support and reliability, has historically lasted longer if ridden within reason and believes in their product more than the KTM management has (I refer to the Charlie and Ewan stuff-up of KTM). The BMW also has a far superior dealer network, probably because there so many more BMs on the road than KTs.
If had to choose today... Although I like the Katy more, I will probably spend my bucks at BM again.
What say you?
