We've just returned from an epic pass filming trip into the E/Cape highlands, where we refilmed the Big 8 plus two new passes- one of which will smash the current highest altitude pass (Sani Pass at 2876m) by a whopping 125m. This is SA's newest pass which summits at 3001m. It will also log in as the 6th steepest pass with an average gradient of 1:8,810. This is the Ben MacDhui Pass and will appear on the website in about a week from today.
In our news release (link provided below) you can read up on the account of us recovering a VW Polo TDi towing a trailer which got stuck on the Carlisleshoekspruit Pass, where the Cruiser was able to tow both the Polo and it's trailer up a safe point.
The toughest pass of the entire trip was undoubtedly the Bastervoetpad. Not terribly technical and no more than a Level 3, but it's long and tedious. It took us 4 hours to complete the pass from intersection to intersection. Brilliant weather resulted in fabulous video footage. Enjoy the video of the Bottelnek Pass where you can get the finest scenery the Eastern Cape has on offer.
