Everyone always talks about Sani pass and Lesotho. Like it's some magical place, where there's some kind of magical elixer to be found. And then there's the constant rumours of Sani about to be tarred and then being lost forever for the adventurous. So it just had to be the first bucket list item I tick off.

After initially planning the trip for easter weekend we decided to move it up to Friday 11th, to avoid the traffic. What a good decision it turned out to be, we could not have asked for better weather for the whole weekend in Lesotho. Barely a cloud in the sky, and mild temperatures.

So on Friday Tufan and I met Tjaart at Bapsfontein, and we set off riding away from the only bad weather we had (slight rain) and heading south towards Himevile. We were to spend the night in one of Himeville Arms' backpacker dorms. Breakfast was enjoyed, close to Villiers and after that it was some serious riding southwards.

At Harrismith we took a shot  left to go past Sterkfontein dam, on the road that is always in a state of repair. Except this time all the sign said the road was closed, but we were let through anyhow. The confusing part was, a few km's up the road, meeting oncoming traffic. Now we're on a piece of road barely wide enough for a vehicle, trying to pass oncoming traffic, with great confusion all round as to how we all ended up on the stop/go section, heading in opposite directions. Anyway we got through safely, had a brief stop next to the dam (pics to come) and then continued on to Nottingham road and thereafter Underberg and Himeville.

Day 1, not every eventful, ended at the Himeville Arms. Day2 the real stuff starts.

A little taste...

Edit: The ride report continues at post #9 further down...
