camping at alexander bay, northern cape

i am planing a 2 week trip mid  April and would like to spend the night in Alexander bay, any suggestions on where to stay, cant seem to find any camping grounds nearby. will be traveling alone so not too keen to spend the night on the side of the road. has any one asked the local SAPS station if you can spend the night with out seeing the judge in the morning ;D
