Day 6 – Recovery day…for the bikes that was....
So moet 'n dag mos begin......
From Prins Albert we went past the Bergwater wine estate…..what a big, neat and well maintained establishment.
I had the rare opportunity of having dinner and watching Brian Finch play there last year…in the cellars. Was that a treat or what.
If you are in the area make a turn there…excellent wines…good prices and friendly people.
I know the area so well due the fact that I have been riding one of the support vehicles for many many years on one of my Toppie’s Mountain Bikes tours. Last year was the first year I did it on the bike. Check it out….I know there are quite a bit of keen cyclists on the forum. https://www.kkkcycle.co.za/
This photie was taken last year….my Toppie obviously arranged this specifically for the cyclists and it was a huge success…hopefully we can do it again this year…and yes…they killed the lights when Brian started to play.
Cocky’s highlight for the day obviously was Meiringspoort…..I tried to stay with him for a while but he gave me carrots…excuse the pun and I knew he was….no sorry…. is the better rider so there was no point in trying to stay with him.
Those white cement thingy’s on the bridges will break man and machine into pieces……not a pretty thought.
It was early in the morning with virtually no cars and the two roaring KTM’s was like heaven for the ears………awesome!
Took this picture on one of the side walls of a guest house in De Rust while we filled up.
Same guy that still works there at the only filling station in De Rust.....
Ek soek brekka.....
Hallo daar Carrots......
We had to stop at the gates of Oudtshoorn Infantry School to take some peekchas again….both of us did our military service and Officer courses there many moons ago and it was a happy and emotional stop.
We stood there for a while…remembering all the afkak sessions…vasbyt…running around Badkop many many times with amo cases and literally leaving blood and sweat in the Oudtshoorn vlaktes. The best times of our lives…that we never want over again.
Hallo to you too Cockster................
Tar…tar….and tar to Mosselbay….with plenty rain….at least there was some nice twisties so it made up for the foul weather.
Stoetas waited for us in the cage just outside Mosselbay and took us through to Bermie’s pad.
Traffic.....aaaaargh......
Ons wag vir Stoetas......Mosselbaai lyk soos Sandton op 'n Maandag oggend
Stripping the bikes…..
Bermie found an aluminium welder so we drove through there...came back…went for lunch…and by now some drinks of course as well at some train restaurant on the beach.
My new Michelin Desert also did it's job by now......2000kms on and I knew it wasn't going to do another 2000.....maybe 1000 but we had a better chance getting a tyre here than in Elliot so Stoetas organised a new Pirelli Scorpion for me so we got that fitted as well. I was sad to depart with my latest friend...I really liked him...and I also knew that I had to take it rustig with the less aggressive tyre..... :'( :'( :'(
Then off to lunch...can't remember what the rest had...but I had a Waterblommetjie bredie.......first time ever!!! Nom nom nom....
Stoetas and Ruantjie....is daar fout Ruantjie?
Stoetas and Berm Rooster.....Bermie rides an HP2......not a BMW he says.....

View from the train restaurant.....
We picked up the sub frames later in the afternoon and we were all convinced that they will never break again…at least at the same place. Little did we know.
The guy charged us R 400 each but we paid it with a smile.
The apartment that Stoeta organised had a brilliant view over the bay area.
We bought a lekker kraak vars Geelstert and a moerse klomp prawns and headed home.
En neeeeeeeeeee.....dis nie 'n wortel vis nie ok............
Brothers....from another Mother......
Cocky did his bit with the Geelstert after he had to convince Stoetas that you don’t use foil……this was an interesting debate but Cocky won and it was mouth-watering.
Ruantjie made a garlic mussel starter and that with the prawns went down in no time. The rest of the evening we spent on the stoep drinking red wine and brandy and talking nonsense.
Not much bike riding took place…but it was good to meet Berm Rooster and we are very grateful to him for allowing us to use his very neat and well equipped garage and workshop.
How far is that project bike of yours dude?

Also thanks to Stoetas and Ruantjie for the excellent and trendy accommodation in Mosselbay, your hospitality and for all the arrangements around getting the bikes back onto the road.
The next day will take us from Mosselbay through the 7 passes and then via Kom se Pad to Uniondale…….I decided long time ago that this would be my favourite day by far. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
