Almost all the bikes I have owned in my 40 years of riding has been chain drive , only one shaft drive bike a Yamaha XJ 900 . So for me chain maintenance is par for the course . When we were riding hard and fast I used to change chains often , maybe every 15-20 k kilos ,
In 2006 i bought my last super bike , will admit is was seldom used for a couple of years , currently on 77000 , and here's the craze part , still on the OEM chain and sprockets , they are shot now , but it has lasted well , 14 years .
I currently have two bikes , my Suzuki GSXR 1000 K6 and a KTM 1190 ADVENTURE .
Both chain drive , I lube the chains often , and when I go on a long ride I take some chain lube with . What I have found over the years is that a slightly loose chain is a happy chain and seems to last longer . On my KTM I am on the second chain , removed the oem one at 18000 , fitted a DOD Z ring chain and it seems good , bike now on 38000 ks . mostly touring .
So far happy with my chains , I plan to fit a Regina when next fitment is due .
