I had a rattle in the front of my bike and I could not find it for a while, drove me nuts. Last week I found it - it was the front brake discs that were loose, rattling. I thought the bolts needed to be tightened but upon closer inspection found they were plenty tight. So I took them off and found that that the bolt holes in the disc itself as well as the rollers (bushing/spacer) were worn. For some reason they wore each other out, although the bolts were tight.

Now I need to replace the two front discs, pads, rollers and washers.

BMW Quotes (VAT incl):

* Rollers x 10 (5 per side): @ R79.99 each = R799.93
* Wave washers x 10 (5 per side): @ R15.66 each = R156.63
* Brake discs (front) x 2: @ R3,888.65 each = R7,777.31
* Brake pads (front) x 2 sets: @ R971.71/set = R1,943.43

TOTAL: R10,677.302

Nodico Quotes (VAT incl):

* Rollers: Dont stock
* Wave washers: Dont stock
* Brake discs (front) x 2: @ R1,950.00 each = R3,900.00
* Brake pads (front) x 2 sets: @ R274/set = R548.00

TOTAL: R4,448.00

Thus, R4,448.00 + R799.93 + R156.63 = R5,404.56. (still about R5,000.00 cheaper than BMW!)

Check those rollers or replace them as a precaution - it might save you about R5000 at best  :dousing:

See the pics below where the disc and rollers chewed each other.
