Good day Gents
I could not find a dedicated thread for this, please point me in the right direction if I missed it.
I'm busy building a small/medium sized CNC router, mostly my own design:
As with anything of the this nature, as I'm building and learning, there is a thousand things I would have done differently. Anyhow, I'll complete as is, and then improve later as it's shortcomings become more evident.
At the moment the mechanicals are 70% done, will post some update pictures soon.
Purposes of the machine will be to cut lift kits from 25 mm HDPE, and to carve wood and alu for rifle stocks. And I'm sure my wife will come up with 101 ideas as well.
Rough working volume:
X: 1000 mm
Y: 500 mm
Z:120 mm
Plan is to mount a normal wood router first, and if the machine works satisfactory, buy a Aliexpress 1.5 kW spindle.
Still need to buy the motor kit as well:

Motion controller via USB, allready waiting in the cupboard:

I'm planning to run Mach 3 control software, and do CAM in Autodesk Fusion, and CAD in Inventor.
To be honest, this last portion is where I get lost a bit, not to clued up with software and the IT side of this build.
Anyone have some comments on the above and especially the use of Mach 3 and alternatives? Is Mach 3 worth the money ($175), and if not what should I be using?
