:thumleft: Very nice. Swartberg pass is beautiful!

Once spoke with Ray Muller from Tours for Africa (excluding vat-fame) who said that these big Adventure Bikes, while impressive etc is not the ideal bike for an Afican Safari.  He tipped the Africa Twin and GS 650 Dakar - this was about 6 years ago.  And looking at you guys, I must say it looks, no doubt, so much easier albeit on only a local Safari,  but nontheless easier.  Well done and nice report.

Right today we head home and were hoping to Meet the Parents at 2pm at Riebeek Kasteel for lunch at about 2pm, yeah like we going to follow a time schedule while out touring  :mwink:
For some reason neither of us slept good, it was 2 degrees outside but a lovely warm 10 inside and by 7:40am the bikes were packed and ready to go, gave them a little time to warm up too.

Unfortunately the boots never recovered from the previous days soaking and they were still wet, now i'm sure every biker has used this solution before !?

First stop was the petrol station, just love how it is right in the street and a bonuss that they take petrol cards too.

Sutherland is aparently great for star gazing but we'll have to come back in summer to see for ourselves.

Back on gravel and doing the Ouberg Pass, very nice views going down it and i'll have to go up it next time.

Views are great from up here.
Ouberg Pass: This was the first main route leading hunters, explorers and fortune seekers from the Cape of Good Hope to the interior and the great north. With the advent of tarred super-highways, the route was largely forgotten until 4x4 enthusiasts led the charge to explore its extensive unpaved sections and started calling it The Forgotten Highway. Ouberg Pass 45 kilometres from Sutherland and 1 404 metres above sea level is one of the most spectacular routes across the Roggeveld mountains. It was picked out by pioneer farmers when the choice of travel was foot slog, horseback or ox wagon. Nearly 100 years later, in 1969, the first proper road was finished over the pass.

Our first Wildlife of the day  ;D

There was a little water at the bottom of the pass followed by some lovely gravel.

Looked deeper from the other side !
Now once at the bottom of the pass we decided to change my route, yes the one i had spent hours planning and calculating , problem was we calculated that we could probably get 200km on a tank and then another 60km with the 2.5L extra i was carrying for both of us. We had done 90km already so now we needed to refuel within another 170km. We wanted to head to Ceres but that was 187km away  :-\ and then a little "TOWN" showed up on the GPS called Matjiesfontein and it was only 108km away and being in a southernly direction it wasn't in the wrong direction so we headed there. Along the way Darryn had to switch to reserve at 170km and later me after 190km but we got there with the trip meter on 198km's .
Matjiesfontein: was founded in 1884 by the legendary James Douglas Logan.  It has become well known for its splendid historical buildings and in testament the entire Village was restored in 1970 and declared a National Historic Monument.

o
To our horror this town was a tourist attraction ( now) and had no petrol  :'(

Being quite cold still we decided to get some coffee and discuss our very limited options, this quaint town seems nice and i would like to return to take a walk through it. We now had two options:
Go back to Laingsburg which was 29km away or carry on to Touws Rivier which was 57km away. My maths was clearly affected by the cold as i agreed to meet the parents in Riebeek Kasteel in 2h 15m, now that was 192km away and travelling at 90km/h without stopping we were going to be late plus i decided to give Darryn 3L and i would take 2L since i was aparently using less fuel. Problem here was that i have about 1.8L reserve and Darryn has 3L so after topping up i started off again with about 3L and Darryn had 5L ( still i should be good for 75km ) After about 30km into the journey i had to switch to reserve again and now my brain started doing all sorts of calculations as i had realised something was wrong with my maths  ???
We rolled into the petrol station and it took 7.79L to fill my bike up, yes i had just  210ml left which was probably enough for another 5KM  :ricky:
IMG_2979.jpg

Got to do Mitchell's Pass along the way. Darryn leading while i try to take pictures.
IMG_30182.jpg

i spotted a roadside shop selling BILTONG  :drif: ( similar to beef jerky but 100 times better)  and it was only R150/kg , tasted great too but have since found cheaper in Durban.
IMG_3062.jpg

We took arrived in Riebeek Kasteel and found a nice little retaurant to have our late lunch at and parking was great too and only after placing our orders we were told that the kitchen was closed, now did i mention we skipped breakfast too so we could get an early start  ::) screw it lets just head back to Cape Town and go to the Blue Peter Hotel where i know the food is good and the views are stunning.
IMG_3046.jpg

If you like wine then the Cape is the place to visit.
IMG_3070.jpg

It was just after 5pm when we got to the Blue Peter and my parking spot was still open  ;D
IMG_3069.jpg

The Blue Peter is one of the oldest sites in Bloubergstrand ( one of the suburbs along the west coast ), dating back to the late 19th century when George Henry Stevenson - a Cape Town harbour official - and his wife Fanali ran a small shop where the hotel stands today. It later became a tearoom with the typically South African name of 'Springbok Cafe'. It then changed again, this time into a small boarding house.the origin of the name dates back to 1949, when it was taken over by Tony Blahovski - a former Polish consul in Cape Town - and his socialite South African wife Freda. The couple transformed the former boarding house into one of the Peninsula's finest wining and dining establishments.
