First thing I did when I got my very first KLR was to ditch the plastic top box and use the tail rack space to pack softer luggage. Over a number of short and long rides I have experimented with various options to carry odds and sodds from tubes, and rain gear to a few beers and chops for a braai alongside the trail.
While browsing stuff at a local retailer I happened across an idea that at the time had potential to end up as a solution that could "expand" according to my needs... so herewith the "KLR Cooler Conversion"... essential kit for barfinders... Doc has already ordered his :ricky:
Pic shows one times 12 can soft cooler bag in the fold away position... work like a treat when I went to Doc last weekend and stayed in place at speed and on some rougher stuff..
Added a simple cordura strap system to keep it folded down when not in use..
Another view to show it fits a fugly tail rack as if custom made...
Bolted down with 4 x bolts through with EMGO / Silstar base plate... the bag already has a strong base, very solid and wont be going anywhere..
In "cross mode" or fully extended...
Cool idea or what? cost a whole hundred ronts for the soft cooler and 15 minutes to fit..
Cheers,
Pete
