Coolant overflow, why?

Need some advice here, I keep the coolant reservoir at the max level and then it overflows on my garage floor after every ride.  Should I just not top it up and let it settle? Can the coolant expand this much?

Read somewhere that a faulty radiator cap could cause this but don't understand quite how.

Any advice appreciated.
