I often use my GPS for geological fieldwork and I find it useful to upload geological maps, grids etc onto the GPS so you know where the fark you are in the field, and you can look very clever knowing what it is you are looking at because you already have it on your GPS. I'll describe the method I use here, but it is quite complex and involves about 4 different bits of software. Possibly someone knows an easier way (which would be appreciated), but this is the way I do it. Note that creating a map and uploading it to your GPS WILL WIPE OUT ANY OTHER MAPS YOU HAVE THERE, so make sure that you have a copy of streetmaps or tracks for africa or whatever before you trash them off the GPS. I am using a 60CS, but this also works for the etrex and a few others I have tried.

You will need:

GPSMapEdit which you can download from https://www.geopainting.com/en/
cGPSmapper from https://www.cgpsmapper.com/download2/FreeSetup.exe (this is the free version)
sendmap20.exe from https://www.cgpsmapper.com/download/sendmap20.zip
