In my opinie was die oorsaak ja.

Go look at the comments on the original post of the video.. we live in a world of people who don't think before commenting. Maybe someone can shed some light as to what this guy is doing? I'm trying to rationalize what he is trying to do but it seems counterproductive .. a car coming along at 120km/h wont even notice him yet alone figure out what he is trying to do.

Jy het dalk 'n punt beet. Die trok het redelik gevaarlik bane geruil.

He is probably indicating to vehicles to change to the outside lane and a case can be made this is where it started. As they often say in air crash investigation, there is never one single cause, but always a chain of events. He seems to be the start of the chain.

I looked at the clip a couple of times and I am sorry to say that the lead bike was the root cause of the incident.
Would the discussion have been along similar lines if the truck driver hit him from behind?
Personally I don't think so as the truck driver would have been blamed and the guy on the lead bike would probably be dead.

As much as the driver of the Fortuner is being blamed ( I agree about the statements about cell phones) but I don't think the blame should be placed on her.

All the blame should be on the lead biker who decided to play chicken with a 40 ton mass moving at between 80 and 120km/h.
A loaded truck at speed cannot simply stop, he needs space which he didn't have. Therefore I say his fast reaction saved at least one live.

So, in slow mo

I have to agree.. the bikes seem to be filtering in at snails pace, not making up their minds as to weather they are taking up a lane or not.. possibly very new / inexperienced riders. The truck probably saw what was happening and changed lanes.. driver not paying attention .. shit show all round.

I've looked at that clip now 10 times. If eyes of car driver were on the road it could have braked long before it reached the truck. Braking was only done just before nearly impact and only lightly not hard before it swerved.

Not only that , the driver should have seen multiple bikes filtering in.. its pretty obvious that the inside lane was going to be occupied with slower moving bikes. At least it doesnt seem too hectic.. those bikers could have been seriously injured if the car rammed into them to avoid the truck
