Hi
My 2001 Dakar has recently been giving me starting problems. My first guess is that it is the starter motor. Push the happy button, and no response. Put the bike in gear and push it so that the engine turn and try again. After a few attempts, this usually works. Sometimes I am lucky and the correct coils probably line up, and it starts first time.
Question:
Is my diagnosis accurate? Do I just waltz into BMW and buy a new starter and install at home? Problem solved or might I be missing something?
I recently also had other starting problems, turned out to be the starter button contacts. I fixed that, but would probably be an indication that the bike has done alot of starting. The bike has done 80 000km by now.
