After seeing KTMKobus's rebuild thread, I decide to try my luck at partially stripping my 450 EXC firstly to clean it up a bit and also check on possible issues.
The rear wheel collar and housing (hope this is the correct terminology) do not appear to be in contact with the affected area so this is likely old damage. Not sure what happened to it in its previous life
My question is whether it can just be slightly filed down to smoothen the rough edges or will it require more extensive surgery?
