Ama ride ride
Grey Hound
I have been wondering about this for a while now.
Itâ??s a well known fact that the 12GS range got some very weak typical European design flaws. I want to focus on two. One being the bash plate and other one the low snorkel. (Air intake)
The question that comes to mind is. Why do riders still keep on knocking their bash plates out? Rojo for one did Van Zyls Pass with a heavy loaded, two up 12GSA and did not smash his bash plate. Yet a year or what ago, Jan du Toit took a group to the Kaokaveld and a 12GSA smashed his bash plate while carried no kit one up on the same pass?
At the recent GSC some bash plates took ugly knocks, at Plothonds Lesotho rock hopper trip a GSA knocked his insides out. Why does this still happens? Kark riding style? No respect for your bike? Stupid mistake? Riding beyond your or the bikes abilities? Unable to measure a rock's high? I am not talking about accidents but doing it while riding.
The same goes for water sucked into the engine. Did the rider not know where the intake is? Or did he not care or was he to scared to stop?
We all know a bike will never adapt to your riding style. One canâ??t ride a GSA like you ride a XR650. So whose fault is it? The smashed bash plates, water in the engine?
