Sunday morning we head to Jeppe’s Reef and cross back into SA. Few surprises on the way to the border just to make sure we understand this is not an off day on the bike 😉

Julle mense is nie lekker in die kop nie!

Now I only feel like the real poser with my 1290 SAR. No ways I will muscle that big ***** through that terrain.

In less than a month I will be 58 and I am already looking for lighter options with a lower seat. Picking up big bikes is hard graft.

Now you know why you never see a 990 on the tar road. They are all lost in the mountains somewhere. Not sure i will survive but worth a try.

Mark Taylor, aka Just Blip it, aka The Sadist, has my full respect as far as riding in Swaziland goes, I saw first hand how he effortlessly handles that heavy bike over the gnarliest terrain and then we struggle behind him with bikes weighing 100 kilos less. Some of my best biking memories were made on the 4 or 5 hardcore rides I did with him. His knowledge of all the tracks and backroads are legendary. We would be riding along on a dirt road then he suddenly pulls off onto a small footpath and the next minute we are riding in a tunnel with trees on both sides completely covering the track, some of the most spectacular riding I have ever done.

Thanks Bertie, we had some good times. Was always great riding with you!

I must say this was a hard ride, the heat was the biggest factor, on a cooler day the ride would have been a lot easier. These bikes can do it easily, us riders hold them back most of the time. The toil and strife is real, but the reward and memories are everlasting!
