A group of us made the trek to Liwa, which is a 3 hour drive away from Dubai, going past Abu Dhabi, and then turn towards the Saudi border.

We camped at a dune called Moreeb, this is quite close to the border, and also the venue for an annual hill (dune) clmbing event.

This is an area of desert called the 'Empty Quarter', more info here on Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rub'_al_Khali

Anyway, the trip there was a pretty uneventful night time run, except for dodging trucks and Saudi locals in Suburbans loaded to the hilt.

Here is some on board footage from a mate:

Wish I had some more photos to share, because it is a very beautiful area. But to be honest, I was just trying to hold an stop my tyres from sinking into the soft sand most of the time.

Hope you enjoy....

Thanks IDR, not sure was wrong with my link. I copied pasted from THE WES, so blame him  :thumleft:

No worries - have deleted my post, will delete this one too to not detract.  Wes is obviously a dodgy programmer ;D

Silly riding in that sand ...

450's and "paddle tires" = lots of fun :thumleft:

@Werner : Helmet cam is a Drift HD I think. Mate mounts it on his goggle strap, hence the view of helmet peak.

I use a contour myself, mounted on top of helmet, but checked as I was leaving and battery was flat.

Lovelly Dismount at the end there!

Awesome place to go riding. Went up in January to practice for the challenge and i Must admit there is nothing that comes close to the solitary feeling you get whilst riding out there.

At some point i remember feeling that if i came short it would take days for them to find me!

let me know when you go up again i may join you guys!

I need to retract my previous statement, and any inference that Wes may have been responsible for broken link....  :peepwall:

For some reason the youtube site is giving a dodgy shortcut when you click on the "share this link" button.

@ Ratel : Never tried one myself. But for 250 AED I think I will next Liwa trip. Not much fun for crossing roads though in Awir pubic triangle....

@Kenesis : Already talks of next trip to Liwa in early Jan.

Some of the Swedish guys i know are going up this week end. Sadly i am at the motocross at UAQ.

Ill try and have my Rally bike done for Jan otherwise i will side my MX bike!

Jeepers...........

I am moving to Doha in two weeks time!!!  :drif: :drif:

Can't wait to get a bike when I'm settled there!!!

:ricky: :ricky:

KnopKop : Sorry to break the news, but Doha is mostly flat and shitty sand, without dunes. Salty too.

Do a youtube search for "sea line" though, that is the best spot in Doha.

Never riden there, only driven in my brother's 4x4.

Awesome, wish Icould land a contrak where I can still have 'a private bike riding live! Nice vid!

sound to me your mate "het sy gat af geval" there on the end. :imaposer: Hope he was ok ;), but looks like fun. I will have to go to namib ( much closer and cheaper) to try some of thet sandy heven
