Some months ago I posted a thread about my KLR being a bit slow...and yes I know they're all slow  ::), but mine was really nowhere. As time went by, I actually almost got used to it.

Since I was going to Gauteng this past weekend I called Graham (DOCTOR KLR) and booked my bike for a valve clearance adjustment and suspension linkages lube.

On my way up to GP the bike really felt underpowered, I was struggling to maintain 120km/h on the open road. My wrist actually got sore of wringing its ear  ;D

When I arrived at his place on Sunday morning I told him that the bike felt a bit pap and asked if he could check it out. We first checked the valves and they were all tight so we had to change all four shims. I actually doubt whether it's ever been checked, or rather adjusted before, since I have never been charged for a single shim by the KMSA dealers that I've asked to do this before.

Graham also noticed that the timing was way out, obviously the main cause of the k@k performance. It seems my friendly KMSA dealer's idiot mechanic read the wrong mark on the flywheel when he lined up arrows on the camshaft sprockets on a previous occasion. This was quickly rectified when we put the camshafts back after the shim change.

A mere 2 hours after I arrived the bike was back in one piece and everything I requested was done...properly!

On my way back from Walkerville to Roodepoort I could feel a HUGE difference in performance! This morning I braved the crappy weather for my trip back to Vryheid and the bike just felt sweet while cruising along at 130 and easily climbing to 150+ when overtaking. Even my fuel consumption have improved and worked out to 5,3l/100km despite a howling side-wind.

Thanks DOC, my bike feels as healthy as new again  :thumleft:
