Ducati Desert Sled any good?

I saw very neat desert sled for sale over the weekend and was surprised how much I like the look of it. I'm a bit nervous as I have read conflicting reports about it ability off road and being a Ducati I'm not sure about reliability. Also I read the timing belts have be changed every couple of years regardless of mileage.

I would appreciate advice.
