In a Superbike article on the BMW F800GT (May 2013 issue), this remark was made by Ben Pienaar, father of Editor Clinton Pienaar?:
"In very slow traffic, when in first and second gear, the fueling does seem to be a little jerky, almost like an on off switch."
The reason is a too lean mixture as prescribed by EU regulations. This is a common problem with F800s, in fact most modern bikes.
This can easily be fixed by fitting an Accelerator Module. The AM cheats the engine management system into believing that it is 20°C cooler than ambient, and increases the Air/Fuel ratio from +-14.2 to +-13.6 under acceleration only. A slightly richer mixture solves the jerkiness and increases usable rpm by increasing torque, especially from 2000-4000 rpm.
Lean mixtures roughens up the motor, but a bit more fuel makes the motor happier - running cooler and smoother.
Fitting an Accelerator Module is a 15 minute plug and play affair.
The AM7 fits all F800** derivatives.
"The Accelerator Module is the best bang for buck" says Miguel from Motomechanica, a Jhb based German and Italian bike specialist.
A new consignment of AMs to fit most BMWs recently arrived in South Africa.
