Morning guys,

Experienced an oil pump drive gear failure on Monday. Luckily I keep an hawks eye on my dails and dash lights. Caught the flashing oil light within2 to 3 seconds from it happening. First thing is your oil light will flash. Secondly your timing chain will make a moerse racket (Obviously no pressure for the tensioner)

Funny that there was no warning just an immediate failure of gears and shit. I am awaiting replacement parts but I am confident that no engine damage occurred, but the proof will be on start-up.

With this breaking of parts in the clutch area (Behind the clutch basket) a lot of the plastic bits went where it should not.

I have removed the Sump to clean the oil pump pick-up and strainer.
There is kinda like a splash plate where most of the bits went for a final resting place.
I am still cleaning but are confident that nothing can go where it should not but a flush with cheap oil en 2 new filters should do the trick to remove all the old broken plastic pieces.

RANT!!
WTF did BMW not make these gears in aluminum? Any clever okes mind to elaborate?

From what I can gather from Jughead is that on older models like mine there is an oil pressure switch which will warn you about any misfortune around that particular oil pump gear failure, but on newer models its not present. Jughead if you will please assist with explaining this issue.

Any oke experienced the same misfortune? And what did you do about it?
