Posting on behalf of my brother who recently(2 weeks ago) immigrated to Canada. He was(and still is) a huge bike enthusiast. He is a super hand on guy who loved working on his bikes and other projects.
This was his message and description of the bike, whom he called Trompie:
The GOOD the BAD and the UGLY
YAMAHA XT 600 EN 2004
Paperwork is in order, last license disc expired on the 31/05/2017, buyer would need to do road worthy when registering bike. Take note bike is road worthy except for the number plate holder.
Nicknamed Trompie due the loud trumpet of a bike, the little scrapper surfed me well carrying me about 32000km around Africa (Cape Town, Sanie Pass, Chobi, Kalahari, etc). The previous owner did around 26000kms before replacing the clock, then did another 4000kms before I bought it, it now has 36637km on the replaced clock, thus the bike has done an estimated total of 62 000kms.
The bike is mechanically sound but is old and sometimes shows it.
It was well maintained and serviced about every 6000kms.
Modifications made to ready it for Africa.
Latest work done on 30000 kms(out of my 32000km):
· New front brake pads
· New front fork seal (right hand side)
· New front fork oil (both)
· Clearances set
· Oil -, air – and fuel filter changed
· Spark plug changed
· Carburetors cleaned and set
· Back sub frame re-welded after brake
New components installed for sale:
· New indicators front and back
· New top box lock (but installation was not completed)
· New battery
Extras with sale:
· Spare front wheel with tire
· Spare front rim
· Various Luggage bags
· Original fuel tank
· Original side covers
· Extra battery
· Back inner tube
· Back wheel brake pads
· Various components
· Spot lights
· 12V socket
· Spare front sprockets
· Full work shop manuals
Known faults:
· Number plate holder
· Speedo cable (this broke when I transported the bike to my brother in PTA on a trailer, so basically zero kms was added to the clock after the move)
· Top box locking mechanism
· Front fork dust boots
· Front tire replacement
