Race Dog
I was breezing through the Cytech website (www.toursforafrica.co.za), and came across this bit of wisdom in the "Riding Academy" section:
The last paragraph is just great.... I never realized this game was about brain power..... Interesting advice...... :!:
"On moderate declines it makes little difference whether you use the front or rear brake. Personally I favour the back. On a very steep descent however the front is a better choice as the rear brake has too little downward pressure on it and tends to lock up while offering little stopping power (unless you have a pillion passenger). If the surface is really bad or has a huge negative camber, brake sharply before, release to get balance and momentum to carry you over and through - and then brake afterwards if necessary.
Using both brakes simultaneously just takes too much brain power. You cannot compute the different surfaces under each wheel and then constantly alter you braking power on each brake independently as traction changes."
