We often get the question at GPS workshops, "Why is Garmin "X" so different to Garmin "Y", and how do I choose which one is better for me?"

I saw the question posed on an overseas board once, and someone obviously close to Garmin, posted a little picture showing how the devices had evolved to their current status. That diagram made the puzzle fall into place for me.

That post was a few years ago, and there have been a host of new products since then, but with the help of my dodgy memory, Google and Wikipedia I have tried to find, and throw together, a slide for the presentation at the GPS workshops.

But I am not sure I have assembled the tree correctly, so I post it here for scrutiny.

Comments and corrections please.

To me the benefit of the slide is to show where the devices fit in Garmin's grand plan, and to explain how and why the devices differ.

The slide stimulated a good debate yesterday.
