Giant Loop Big Basin soft luggage???

I am thinking of buying the Big Basin bag, one of the reasons it is on top of my list is that I do not need to buy luggage racks as I also want to keep the Vario mounting points for trips when SWAMBO goes along. These bags are advertised as waterproof but I have seen the ADV forum  that there are complaints that they are not waterproof. Is there anyone here that have used these bags in heavy rain etc that can comment?

The wolfman expedition dryline bags also looks very good. Is there any way they can be mounted on a F800GS without having to fit different luggage racks?
