Just for everyone to remember:
Excessive cold or heat will kill you first - then thirst and only many days later hunger.
In the Karoo you can have both excessive heat and cold in 24 hrs.
Wear or carry enough insulation for the region you are travelling in.
I know many riders who carry padkos snacks, but no water. :eek7:
I know few who carry any protection from extreme heat sun and cold.

If you ride alone this is even more critical to your survival.
Foil space blankets take so little space and are cheap.
Sommer take two and wrap a powerful narrrow beam torch with them.
Put them in your jacket pocket with a referree's whistle.
Carry two water sources - in case you fall and break one of them on your adventure ride.
Carry matches
and a lighter.
