Good route to Malgas and beyond?

I am planning a solo trip from Cape Town to Jongensfontein. I know many of you have done the crossing at malgas etc.

Any roads that I should avoid? Any places I should see along the way?

Your help would be appreciated as I dont just want to fly along the N2 and turn off at Stilbaai.
