I installed Google Maps on my S60 based Nokia 6110 today, I'm quite impressed with how quick it can lock location, it must surely use triangulation. Obviously it uses your data connection for maps and stuff, but it don't have to be upgraded!

It cannot do routing yet, but that is most likely on it's way. You can search for stuff, and even have satellite view.

They are also offering a traffic information layer in the US. They calculate traffic density by all devices running Maps sending their location and speed to Google, and they can then calculate the density and provide it back to you. Garmin is also going to do this soon, in fact their trials have started in Gauteng already AFAIK. They are going to get a feed from the cellcos with the information as I understood it, so it might be more accurate. But you would still require a data connection to get the information.

Come on Seacom, bandwidth cost is delaying innovation!
