How to manage mud and slick

As mentioned in ride reports, i am down in clarens where it has been raining for a while. With rain, sadly, comes mud..lots of it. My question is how to manage mud when you have Anakees on? The bike just slips all over the place, leaving both mommy and I a little jittery..
